About the Village
Dorma, situated in Torpa block of Khunti, is home to Malhar and Munda artisan families whose ancestral craft of non-ferrous lost-wax metal casting (Dokra) dates back 4,000 years to the Indus Valley Civilization. Open courtyards feature smoking charcoal pit kilns, beeswax coils, and handcrafted tribal deities.
Living Heritage & Traditions
Every Dokra piece is unique and hollow-cast: an intricate beeswax armature is wound by hand, covered in anthill clay and cow dung, dried in the sun, and poured with molten bell-metal alloy.
